TCW’s Manning Wins Intermodal’s Silver Kingpin Award
CALVERTON, MD, July 30, 2018 – The 鶹Ƶ announced today that David Manning, head of the Nashville-based transportation company TCW, Inc. and also the current chairman of the American Trucking Associations, will be honored with the 2018 鶹Ƶ Silver Kingpin Award at this year’s Intermodal EXPO in Long Beach, California.
The Silver Kingpin, the industry’s most prestigious award, recognizes an individual’s long-term contributions to intermodalism. It was initiated in 1977 when it was presented by the National Piggyback Association. Manning will receive the award during EXPO’s opening general session on Monday, Sept. 17.
The former 鶹Ƶ chairman began his career at his uncle’s motor carrier company, working the dock and driving a truck locally. As an executive at TCW, which he joined in 1985, Manning has grown the company while expanding its intermodal business. Outside TCW, he has led initiatives that include ATA’s Intermodal Motor Carriers Conference and the North American Chassis Pool Cooperative. He also served for more than a decade on the Intermodal Interchange Executive Committee, a standing panel of 鶹Ƶ that administers the Uniform Intermodal Interchange Agreement.
“Inside and outside the Association, Dave’s commitment to serving the industry has been tireless and focused on positive change,” said Adriene Bailey, 鶹Ƶ chairman. “He should be commended for his broad-based and innovative contributions. We are all grateful to Dave for his service to the intermodal industry and to 鶹Ƶ.”
Martin Summers, CCM general manager, maintenance and administration, is the recipient of this year’s Chairman’s Award, to be presented in recognition of service to the Association. Summers has been leading 鶹Ƶ’s Intermodal Chassis Mechanics Training Task Force and shepherding the development of 53 intermodal recommended practices produced by the group.
“The work of the Task Force will ultimately support and improve the quality of chassis on which the industry depends,” said Joni Casey, 鶹Ƶ president and CEO. “Marty deserves our thanks and recognition for his leadership throughout the process.”
鶹Ƶ’s roster of more than 1,000 corporate members includes railroads, ocean carriers, ports, intermodal truckers and over-the-road highway carriers, intermodal marketing and logistic companies, and suppliers to the industry. This roster gives 鶹Ƶ a unique position within the intermodal community, one which is authoritative, holistic and able to affect change that benefits everyone. 鶹Ƶ consistently supports the shared needs, interests, and goals of its diverse members – regardless of mode or function – with business solutions, education, and networking opportunities.
